Telo MT1 Electric Truck: Compact, Versatile, and Affordable

Telo MT1 Electric Truck: Compact, Versatile, and Affordable

California-based Telo Trucks has revealed updated pricing for its space-efficient MT1 electric pickup. Initially unveiled in 2023 at $49,999 for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version, the MT1 now offers a more affordable single-motor rear-wheel-drive option starting at $41,520, before incentives.

Pricing and Powertrain Options

The base MT1 is equipped with a 300-hp single-motor powertrain, providing an estimated range of 260 miles with the Standard battery pack. Buyers looking for enhanced capabilities can choose from several upgrades:

  • Long Range Pack: Delivers over 350 miles of range for an additional $3,980.
  • Dual-Motor AWD Powertrain: Boosts power to 500 hp, enabling a towing capacity of 6,600 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,600 pounds for an extra $4,769.

The Long Range pack features a 106-kWh battery, although the Standard pack’s capacity has not yet been disclosed. Telo claims the Long Range version can recover 210 miles of range in just 20 minutes using DC fast charging, adding convenience for long trips.

Compact Dimensions, Big Utility

Measuring just 152 inches in length—the same as the Mini Cooper SE hatchback—the MT1 is designed for urban environments while delivering impressive functionality. It seats five adults and features a 60-inch bed, larger than the one found in the Rivian R1T.

A midgate enhances the truck’s versatility, allowing it to carry long items like a 9-foot surfboard or a 4×8 sheet of plywood behind the front seats. Despite its small size, the MT1 is engineered to handle a variety of tasks, from daily commutes to outdoor adventures.

Reservations and Market Prospects

Telo has already received 3,700 reservations, with a deposit of $152—equal to the truck’s length in inches. The company plans to hold a press launch event in early 2025 and is aiming to make the MT1 a reality in a competitive electric truck market.

Challenges and Opportunities

While the MT1’s specs and pricing are promising, the electric truck market has seen other startups, such as Canoo and Alpha Motors, struggle to transition from concept to production. If Telo can overcome these hurdles, the MT1 could fill a niche as a compact, capable, and affordable electric pickup, appealing to urban drivers and adventure seekers alike.

With its innovative design and practical features, the Telo MT1 stands out as a unique option in the growing EV landscape.
