Mercedes-Benz GLC EV Spotted Testing in the Arctic

Mercedes-Benz GLC EV Spotted Testing in the Arctic

First Look at the All-Electric GLC

Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch its electric GLC, and testing is already underway in the Arctic. The automaker recently confirmed that the GLC EV—officially named the GLC with EQ Technology—will arrive by 2027. This model will be part of a wave of new electric and hybrid vehicles set to redefine Mercedes’ lineup.

Advanced Battery Tech & 800V Charging

The GLC EV will feature next-generation battery cells with silicon oxide and graphite anodes, boosting energy density without increasing battery size. This technology, also planned for the upcoming electric G-Class, promises longer range and better efficiency.

Charging won’t be an issue either. The GLC EV will support 800V architecture with a peak DC fast-charging rate of 320 kW, allowing for rapid charge times. A 2-speed rear-drive transmission and an available dual-motor all-wheel-drive system will ensure performance stays sharp.

Smarter & More Efficient Driving

To improve efficiency, the front motor can disconnect when extra traction isn’t needed, a feature first introduced in the EQE SUV. Mercedes also aims to fix previous braking complaints from EQ models with an updated braking system that delivers more precise pedal feedback.

Will the GLC EV Come to the U.S.?

Mercedes has yet to confirm whether the electric GLC will be sold in the U.S. However, it would fit in the lineup as a spiritual successor to the EQC, which was originally planned for the American market but never launched.

What’s Next for Mercedes EVs?

Mercedes is ramping up its electric shift, with electric versions of the C-Class and E-Class also expected by 2027. With cutting-edge battery tech, fast charging, and improved driving dynamics, the GLC EV could be a major step forward in Mercedes’ EV strategy. Whether it will make it stateside remains to be seen.
