Charging No Longer Means Waiting
One of the biggest concerns with electric vehicles has always been charging time. Nobody wants to sit at a station for an hour just to get back on the road. Thanks to massive investment and new battery tech, that problem is fading fast. Many of today’s top EVs can now hit 80% charge in 25 minutes or less. One model even does it in five minutes—faster than filling a gas tank.
Surprise: Tesla Isn’t Leading
Tesla’s Superchargers remain impressive, adding plenty of miles in just 15 minutes. But the brand no longer holds the crown for fastest charging. A new wave of EVs from Europe, Korea, and China is setting the pace.
Hypercar Power Meets Speedy Charging
The Rimac Nevera, with 1,914 horsepower, rockets to 60 mph in 1.74 seconds and charges to 80% in 25 minutes. Meanwhile, the Lotus Emeya and Lotus Eletre both manage the feat in 18–20 minutes, blending luxury design with serious performance.
SUVs, Sedans, and Family EVs Step Up
Practical models are just as impressive. The Kia EV9 takes only 20 minutes to go from 10% to 80%. Its siblings, the EV6 GT and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, cut that down to 18 minutes, while offering drift modes and sporty driving thrills. Even the family-friendly Genesis GV70 joins the list at 19 minutes, proving fast charging isn’t just for supercars.
Porsche, Audi, and Genesis Deliver Premium Speed
Luxury brands are in on the action too. The Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT both hit 18 minutes, while the Porsche Macan EV and Audi SQ6 reach 21 minutes. Genesis adds to the competition with the GV60 and Ioniq 6, also sitting at 18 minutes.
The Global Game-Changer
But the real headline belongs to the BYD Han L. Using Megawatt charging, it jumps from 10% to 80% in just 5 minutes. For now, it’s limited to China, but global rollout is expected. If this tech spreads, range anxiety could become history.
