From EVs to Tablets: BYD’s Next Power Move

BYD Adds a New Layer to Its Tech Stack

BYD isn’t slowing down. Already the world’s biggest EV maker, the company just revealed its first in-house tablets, expanding its reach far beyond cars. The launch was teased on social media with the line: “unlimited excitement, just one touch away.” This move shows that BYD is not just building vehicles—it’s reshaping the tech landscape.

From Batteries to Full Systems

The new tablets will debut inside the upcoming Tai 7 hybrid SUV, a model from BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand. Features include multi-screen viewing, seamless connectivity, and upgraded infotainment—all designed to meet the growing demand for smarter in-car entertainment. For BYD, it’s a natural extension of its long-standing expertise in electronics.

Built Different: BYD’s In-House Edge

BYD has been a battery powerhouse since the 1990s, starting with cellphones before moving into EVs. Today, its Blade batteries power models from Tesla, Toyota, Ford, and BMW. But batteries are just the beginning. BYD now builds nearly every part of its popular Dolphin hatchback—everything except the tires and windows. This level of vertical integration gives the company unmatched control over cost, supply, and innovation.

A Hidden Electronics Giant

Many forget BYD is also one of China’s largest contract manufacturers. Its subsidiary produces smartphones, laptops, and vehicle electronics, even assembling iPhones and iPads for Apple. That expertise now feeds directly into BYD’s EV ecosystem, creating tech that feels more like consumer electronics than traditional car hardware.

What’s Next for BYD

The Tai 7 SUV is expected to launch in the fourth quarter, following the smaller Tai 3 that debuted in March. It represents the second step in Fang Cheng Bao’s lineup and could serve as the testing ground for BYD’s tablet strategy. Combined with upgrades like the God’s Eye smart driving system, rolled out earlier this year across 21 models, BYD is building more than cars. It’s building a complete ecosystem.

The Bigger Picture

BYD’s new tablets highlight a simple truth: this is no longer just an automaker. It’s a full-stack technology company competing on multiple fronts—EVs, batteries, and now consumer electronics—all under one roof.
