Kia’s “CB” EV Is Coming—And It’s Not What You Think

Kia’s “CB” EV Is Coming—And It’s Not What You Think

A Surprise Addition to Kia’s EV Lineup

Kia is quietly prepping a new electric vehicle, and it’s not the EV2, EV3, or even the EV9. Known only by its codename, CB, this EV is part of a newly signed deal between Kia and its labor union in South Korea. Production is slated to begin by 2030 at Kia’s Hwaseong Plant 2.

Details are still scarce. Kia hasn’t revealed the size, segment, or specs of the CB—likely because it’s in early development. Still, the move signals Kia’s strong commitment to expand its EV lineup beyond what’s already been announced.

Not Just One Model—A Whole Strategy

Alongside CB, Kia confirmed it will begin production of a second electric van, the PV7, starting in 2027. The PV7 will be larger than the current PV5, which Kia is already building at its Hwaseong EVO facility. These vans are part of Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy—flexible, modular EVs designed for commercial and utility use.

Powering Up the Supply Chain

The agreement also covers investments in battery packs, power electronics, and other core EV components. Kia wants to strengthen its domestic EV supply chain, reduce reliance on imports, and accelerate its electrification goals.

Big Plans in Europe

Kia’s momentum isn’t limited to Korea. In Europe, the company plans to triple EV production by 2027. That includes building:

  • 100,000 EV2 units (its smallest EV) in Slovakia
  • 80,000+ EV4 hatchbacks at the same plant
  • A growing number of EV4 fastbacks in South Korea

Kia has already sold 71,000+ EVs in Europe through August 2025—up 56% from last year. The EV3 is leading the charge, with 45,000 units sold, making it one of Europe’s top 10 EVs this year.

One Word: Expansion

The CB may be a mystery for now, but its message is clear—Kia’s EV ambitions are only just beginning.
