Master Winter with Your Ford EV

Master Winter with Your Ford EV

Drive Confidently This Winter in Your Ford EV

Cold weather doesn’t have to kill your range or comfort. Ford’s winter driving tips help you keep your EV efficient, warm, and road-ready—even when temperatures drop below freezing.

  1. Park Smart to Preserve Performance

Whenever possible, park your EV in a garage. A warmer space helps the battery stay efficient and cabin preconditioning work faster. No garage? Look for covered parking or sunny spots to reduce ice buildup.

  1. Clear Snow—All of It

Remove snow and ice from your entire vehicle before driving. It’s not just about visibility—it’s about safety. Ford’s cameras and sensors need a clear view to function properly.

  1. Use the Right Drive Mode

Switch to winter-optimized drive modes like Slippery Mode (F-150 Lightning) or Whisper Mode (Mach-E). These settings soften throttle response and boost traction control for better handling on ice or snow.

  1. Keep It Plugged In

Plug your EV in when parked overnight or for long periods. A plugged-in vehicle maintains optimal battery temperature, helping preserve range and performance—even if it’s not actively charging.

  1. Precondition Like a Pro

Use the Ford app to schedule departure times. While plugged in, your EV will warm the cabin and battery before you leave—boosting both comfort and efficiency. Bonus: no more freezing cold starts.

  1. Warm Yourself, Not the Cabin

Use heated seats and the steering wheel instead of cranking cabin heat. It uses far less energy, extending your range. And during fast charging, turn down the climate control to help speed things up.

  1. Check Tire Pressure—Often

Cold temps lower tire pressure, affecting range, traction, and safety. Keep your tires inflated to the recommended levels (found inside the driver door). Proper pressure means proper grip and less energy waste.

Stay Ready, Stay Informed

From smart charging to slippery roads, winter EV driving takes a little prep. But with Ford’s built-in tech and smart features, you’re more than equipped to handle it. Cold weather shouldn’t slow you down—it should just make you smarter.
