BMWs Can Now Tap Into Tesla’s Charging Network
Starting December 2025, BMW electric vehicle owners can finally use Tesla Superchargers—a long-awaited move that dramatically increases fast-charging options across North America.
But don’t pull up just yet. To connect, you’ll need a BMW-approved NACS (North American Charging Standard) adapter and a Remote Software Upgrade (RSU). Without these, your car won’t be compatible—even if a charger is physically available.
What You’ll Need to Get Charging
To access Tesla’s NACS Partner Superchargers, BMW drivers must:
- Have a BMW-approved NACS adapter
- Receive the necessary Remote Software Upgrade
Once those are in place, your vehicle can communicate with Tesla’s charging infrastructure and start charging seamlessly.
Step-by-Step: Charging Your BMW at a Tesla Supercharger
Charging is simple once you’re equipped:
- Use the My BMW App or in-car navigation to find a Tesla Supercharger marked as a NACS Partner Station.
- Connect the Tesla charging cable to your NACS adapter, then plug it into your BMW.
- Charging starts automatically via Plug & Charge, or you can activate it using the app.
- Monitor your charge level and remaining time through the app.
- Once finished, disconnect and stow your adapter.
Remember, not all Tesla Superchargers are compatible. If the station doesn’t appear in your BMW’s navigation or app, it won’t work—even if you’re parked right there.
Which BMWs Are Compatible?
Most BMW EVs from 2022 and newer can begin charging at Tesla stations in December 2025, assuming they’ve received the RSU. However, a few 2026 models—like the BMW iX and i5 variants—won’t get the software upgrade until early spring 2026 due to hardware differences.
Fast Charging, Big Convenience
Tesla Superchargers offer DC fast charging, which is miles ahead of Level 2 public chargers. Instead of waiting 8–12 hours, you’ll go from 10% to 80% in just 30–35 minutes—perfect for road trips or quick top-ups.
