A New Kind of Electric Pickup
Ford is preparing to launch a new mid-size electric pickup aimed at budget-conscious buyers. It doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s set to start around $30,000—and now we know it won’t skimp on capability.
Unlike early rumors suggesting rear-wheel drive only, Ford has confirmed the truck will launch with all-wheel drive, thanks to a dual-motor setup. This is a big win for drivers in cold climates, rough terrain, or anyone wanting more control and performance.
Performance Without the Price Tag
The truck will use two electric motors—one for the rear wheels and one for the front. These motors will be built in-house, which helps Ford keep costs down. In fact, the company claims they’ll be the lowest-cost EV motors in the world, allowing them to hit that $30K price point without cutting essential features.
Flexible Battery Options
Buyers will be able to choose from multiple battery options, depending on whether they prioritize price or range. While official specs are still under wraps, the base model is expected to use a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery around 51 kWh. Higher trims could offer longer range using nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) batteries.
All versions will use a 400V architecture, which is simpler and more cost-effective than the 800V systems in more expensive EVs.
Powering Your Home — Just Like Lightning
One standout feature: this truck will support bidirectional charging. That means it can act as a backup power source for your home—something previously limited to the F-150 Lightning.
A Big Step for Affordable EVs
Ford’s new electric truck isn’t just cheap—it’s smart. With AWD, battery flexibility, and energy export capability, it’s shaping up to be the most capable entry-level EV truck on the market when it arrives next year. It represents a strategic move by Ford to redefine what consumers can expect from an entry-level electric truck.
