A Radical New Start for Honda EVs
Honda is officially turning the page with the launch of its 0 Series SUV—an all-electric model built on a brand-new EV platform. Unlike the Prologue or Acura ZDX, which were developed with GM, this one is 100% Honda.
It’ll be built in Ohio and is expected to hit production in late 2026, aiming to rival the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Cadillac Optiq.
A Platform Built from Scratch
The new platform follows Honda’s mantra: Thin, Light, and Wise. That means low-slung, lightweight vehicles packed with advanced software. The SUV will feature slim battery packs in the floor, megacast components for reduced weight, and high-speed processors.
It will run on Honda’s new Asimo OS, developed in partnership with Renesas. The system supports AI-powered features, Lidar, and eventually Level 3 autonomous driving.
Next-Level Tech Inside and Out
Prototypes feature a yoke-style steering wheel, sculpted white seats, a panoramic roof, and a full-width digital dash. The rear adopts a sloped “kammback” shape to reduce drag, though rear visibility may be compromised.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a built-in AI assistant are all on deck.
Powertrain Options and Range
Honda will offer two e-motors: one with 241 hp and a smaller 67 hp unit for dual-motor setups. The top dual-motor version could deliver up to 482 horsepower.
While final voltage specs are TBD, the platform supports 800V architecture for faster charging than many current EVs.
Price and Launch Timeline
While Honda hasn’t confirmed official pricing, the 0 Series SUV is expected to cost less than the upcoming 0 Series Saloon. Early estimates suggest a starting price around $50,000, placing it above the Hyundai Ioniq 5 but competitive with higher trims of the Tesla Model Y.
Production will kick off at Honda’s Ohio EV hub in late 2026, with the first deliveries likely arriving in early 2027. This timeline puts Honda in a strong position as the next wave of electric SUVs hits the U.S. market.
