Mercedes VLE Debuts: The Electric Van With a Built-In Cinema

Mercedes Enters a New Electric Era

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the all-new electric VLE, a vehicle designed to blend limousine comfort with the practicality of a multi-purpose vehicle. The model marks the debut of the brand’s new Van Architecture platform, which allows engineers to rethink both design and interior layout.

Instead of focusing only on passenger transport, Mercedes positions the VLE as a flexible luxury space on wheels. Families, VIP shuttle services, and lifestyle users can all configure the vehicle differently.

At the same time, the VLE represents another step in Mercedes-Benz’s transition toward advanced electric mobility.

Spacious Interior With Flexible Seating

Inside, the VLE focuses on adaptability. The cabin can accommodate up to eight passengers and supports multiple seating arrangements.

Mercedes developed several new seat designs, including a high-end Grand Comfort Seat with massage, lumbar support, calf support, and wireless phone charging. Meanwhile, the rear seating layout can change depending on the situation.

Passengers can move seats manually or reposition them electronically using the Remote Variable Rear Space system through the infotainment display or a mobile app. As a result, the cabin can quickly switch between cargo space, executive seating, or balanced passenger configurations.

Above the cabin sits the Sky View panoramic roof, which stretches across the rear section of the vehicle. The large glass surface fills the interior with natural light, while ambient lighting enhances the atmosphere at night.

A Digital Cabin With Cinema-Level Entertainment

Technology plays a major role in the VLE experience. Mercedes equips the vehicle with the MB.OS operating system, which connects infotainment, vehicle systems, and driver assistance features into one intelligent ecosystem.

Rear passengers receive an especially immersive setup. A 31-inch retractable panoramic display drops down from the roof when activated. The system supports video streaming, gaming, and video conferencing.

In addition, the Burmester 3D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos and 22 speakers creates a powerful entertainment environment. Up front, the optional MBUX Superscreen stretches across the dashboard and integrates multiple displays for the driver and front passenger.

Long Range and Fast Charging

The VLE runs on an 800-volt electric architecture paired with a 115 kWh battery. Mercedes estimates a WLTP driving range exceeding 700 kilometers.

Charging is equally impressive. Under ideal conditions, drivers can add up to 355 kilometers of range in around 15 minutes using high-power DC charging.

Performance also remains strong. The VLE 400 4MATIC produces 305 kW of power and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in roughly 6.5 seconds.

Smart Driving and Advanced Assistance

Mercedes equips the VLE with a wide range of driver-assistance technologies. Cameras, radar units, and ultrasonic sensors constantly monitor the surroundings.

These systems support features such as adaptive cruise control, assisted lane changes, and automated parking.

Rear-axle steering further improves maneuverability. In fact, the turning circle measures just 10.9 meters, comparable to a compact sedan.

With its blend of electric range, limousine comfort, and immersive digital technology, the Mercedes VLE shows how luxury vans may evolve in the electric era
