Zoox Accelerates Its Robotaxi Expansion
Autonomous vehicle company Zoox is rapidly expanding its robotaxi network across the United States.
The Amazon-backed startup announced new milestones as it pushes deeper into what it calls its “year of growth.” The company is increasing service coverage in existing markets while preparing to launch operations in additional cities.
Most notably, Zoox will begin deploying its purpose-built robotaxis in Austin, Texas, and Miami, Florida. These vehicles differ from many competitors because they are designed without steering wheels or pedals, focusing entirely on autonomous operation.
At the same time, Zoox says its fleet is approaching two million autonomous miles driven, highlighting the rapid pace of development.
Service Expands in Las Vegas and San Francisco
Zoox is also significantly expanding operations in its current cities.
In Las Vegas, the company is widening its service area along the famous Las Vegas Strip. Riders will soon be able to request robotaxi trips between major hotels and the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The company also plans to offer rides to large event venues such as T-Mobile Arena and the Sphere. Initially, the service will launch with internal users before expanding to the public later this year.
Meanwhile, in San Francisco, Zoox is dramatically increasing coverage for participants in its Explorer Program. Early riders will soon be able to travel across a much larger portion of the city, including neighborhoods like Marina, Chinatown, North Beach, Pacific Heights, and the Embarcadero.
Austin and Miami Become New Test Markets
Two additional cities will soon join Zoox’s growing robotaxi map.
The company confirmed that Austin and Miami will host the next phase of robotaxi testing. Initially, the vehicles will operate in small designated zones while engineers collect real-world data.
As with earlier launches, Zoox will first offer rides to employees, family members, and invited guests before gradually opening the service to the public.
The company also plans to launch a rider waitlist in Austin, allowing early adopters to sign up for future access.
Autonomous Ride Demand Is Growing
Interest in robotaxis appears strong.
Zoox reports that more than 500,000 people have already joined its waitlist for autonomous rides. That demand is one reason the company continues expanding its network.
With millions of autonomous miles logged and new cities joining the test program, Zoox is steadily moving toward larger-scale robotaxi deployment across the United States.
If the expansion continues at this pace, fully driverless ride-hailing could soon become a common sight in major American cities.
