BMW iX3 Wins Two Major Global Car Awards

BMW’s newest electric SUV just scored a major victory on the global stage. The BMW iX3 has been named both “World Car of the Year 2026” and “World Electric Vehicle 2026.”

The awards highlight the strong debut of BMW’s Neue Klasse generation, a new platform designed to shape the company’s next wave of electric vehicles.

A Big Moment for BMW’s Neue Klasse

The iX3 represents the first production model built on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture. The vehicle debuted at the IAA Mobility event in 2025 and quickly became one of the most anticipated EV launches from the brand.

Industry experts believe the platform marks a major technological shift for BMW. It introduces a new design language, upgraded electronics, and advanced electric powertrain systems.

The global recognition at the World Car Awards, announced during the New York Auto Show, reinforces that momentum.

Why the BMW iX3 Stood Out

The BMW iX3 impressed judges with its blend of performance, range, and technology.

The SUV can deliver up to 805 kilometers (around 500 miles) of WLTP driving range. It also supports ultra-fast charging up to 400 kW, allowing significant range recovery in minutes.

In fact, the battery can add about 372 km (231 miles) of range in just 10 minutes at a high-power charger.

The vehicle uses BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive system, which combines an advanced electric drivetrain with an 800-volt battery architecture.

Performance and Power

The top version, BMW iX3 50 xDrive, uses two electric motors.

Together they produce 345 kW (469 horsepower) and 645 Nm of torque. The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 km/h.

BMW also introduced a new control system called the “Heart of Joy.” This computing unit manages driving dynamics and works with BMW Dynamic Performance Control to optimize traction, efficiency, and braking.

A High-Tech Digital Interior

Inside the iX3, BMW introduces its Panoramic iDrive system, built on the new BMW Operating System X.

The system combines several display elements:

  • A wide Panoramic Vision projection across the windshield
  • A 17.9-inch central touchscreen
  • An optional 3D head-up display
  • Steering wheel controls with BMW’s “Shy Tech” interface

These features create a fully digital cockpit focused on intuitive interaction.

Recognition From a Global Jury

A panel of 98 automotive journalists from 33 countries selected the winners after extensive testing. The BMW iX3 competed against 57 vehicles in the overall category and 43 electric models in the EV category.

For BMW, the victory adds two more trophies to its growing list of World Car Awards.
