Big range jump puts iX3 at the top of its class
The next-generation BMW iX3 has officially been priced for Canada, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most competitive midsize electric SUVs arriving in 2026. Starting at $75,900 CAD, the new model delivers up to 698 km of range (EPA cycle), putting it near the top of its segment for real-world driving distance.
That figure is higher than earlier estimates of around 650 km, thanks to improvements in aerodynamics, battery efficiency, and overall energy management. For drivers, the impact is straightforward: fewer charging stops on road trips, less winter range anxiety, and more flexibility in daily use without constantly planning around chargers.
Strong pricing in the premium EV segment
Despite the long range, BMW has kept the pricing relatively sharp. At $75,900 CAD, the iX3 undercuts several competing long-range electric SUVs while still offering premium features and performance.
This positions it as a strong value option in the midsize luxury EV space, especially for buyers who want long-distance capability without stepping up into larger or more expensive electric SUVs. It also strengthens BMW’s push to compete directly with both legacy automakers and newer EV-focused brands.
Sixth-generation eDrive system
Under the skin, the iX3 introduces BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology. This includes updated electric motors, improved battery cell design, and better overall thermal and energy management.
The system improves efficiency while maintaining strong performance across different driving conditions. BMW also introduces a new central control architecture called the “Heart of Joy,” which integrates powertrain, traction, and chassis systems to improve responsiveness and handling precision.
Fast charging and new digital interior
Charging is another major upgrade. The iX3 supports DC fast charging speeds of up to 400 kW, which enables very quick charging stops when connected to high-power stations. Real-world speeds will depend on infrastructure, but the system is designed to stay relevant as charging networks expand.
Inside, BMW debuts its Panoramic iDrive system, a full-width display that runs along the base of the windshield. This replaces traditional clusters with a cleaner layout that keeps key driving information in the driver’s natural line of sight.
The cabin also runs BMW Operating System X with ConnectedDrive services, improving navigation, voice control, and app integration.
Bigger picture
Set to arrive in Canada in Fall 2026, the iX3 represents BMW’s push to combine long range, fast charging, and premium technology at a more accessible price point. It doesn’t just compete on specs — it pushes toward making long-distance EV ownership genuinely practical for mainstream luxury buyers.
