A Splash of Purple in a World of Gray
Rivian just dropped a bombshell — a new limited-run color called Borealis, and it’s not subtle.
This deep, rich purple made its debut at Art Week Miami Beach, proving Rivian’s not afraid to shake up the sea of grayscale EVs.
Gone are the days of only black, white, or silver. Borealis isn’t just a color — it’s a vibe.
Limited Edition, Maximum Impact
Borealis is only available for a limited time and only on the Tri-Motor and Quad-Motor R1 trims.
It’ll cost you an extra $3,000, but exclusivity comes with a price — and honestly, it looks worth every cent.
Rivian is phasing out Limestone and almost dropped Red Canyon, but reversed that call. Still, Borealis is now the boldest paint in the lineup.
Rivian’s Design Studio Gets It
This isn’t Rivian’s first color flex.
They’ve offered unique options before — like Launch Green and the dearly missed Compass Yellow. Out of 10 total colors today, six aren’t monochrome — a refreshing twist for the EV market.
Even their accent choices, like yellow and teal, show the brand’s commitment to personality.
Purple Pays (Yes, Really)
Surprisingly, bold colors like purple can hold value better.
Back in 2022, purple ranked third among car paint colors with the least depreciation, right behind yellow and orange.
So while it may seem flashy now, this color choice could age well — both aesthetically and financially.
More Than a Paint Job
Borealis represents something bigger.
It shows that Rivian is not just building EVs — it’s building culture. This kind of attention to visual individuality gives hope for even more exciting design choices in the upcoming R2 and R3 models.
Until then, this limited-edition R1 is proof that color still matters. In a world where most EVs blend in, the R1 in Borealis dares to stand out.
