China Tightens EV Cable Rules and Adds QR Tracking for E-Bikes

China just updated key certification rules for EV charging cables — and introduced mandatory traceability for select e-bike products.
The changes reshape compliance under the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) system and set clear transition deadlines.

Companies that sell into China need to act early.

New Standard for EV Charging Cables

China released GB/T 33594-2025, “Cables for Charging Electric Vehicles,” on October 5, 2025. The new standard replaces the 2017 version and takes effect on May 1, 2026.

In response, the China Quality Certification Center (CQC) updated its certification rules (CQC11-463426-2024). The revision adopts the new technical standard as the certification basis. It also adjusts unit classification, type-testing sample requirements, and factory quality assurance provisions.

CQC already accepts applications under the new framework. However, it will stop issuing certificates based on the 2017 standard after May 1, 2026.

Existing certificate holders must apply for conversion. They need to submit differential test reports for each product series and complete the transition by April 30, 2027. Authorities will suspend — and eventually revoke — certificates that miss the deadline.

Importantly, EV charging cables require CCC approval for legal import and sale in China.

QR Code Traceability for E-Bike Products

At the same time, the China Automobile Certification Center (CCAP) launched a CCC pilot reform focused on traceability.

The pilot covers electric bicycles, lithium-ion batteries for e-bikes, chargers, and occupant helmets. Under the new rules, products must display the CCC mark alongside a traceable QR code.

Manufacturers can use either a standard mark issued by CCAP or an approved printed or molded version that follows strict design and management rules.

Newly certified products must comply starting March 1, 2026. Previously certified products must add QR traceability by March 1, 2027.

Certified organizations must ensure a one-to-one match between certificates and QR codes. They also need formal mark-usage systems and recordkeeping processes to maintain compliance.

What It Means for Industry

These updates signal stronger oversight and digital traceability across China’s EV and micromobility sectors.

For manufacturers, compliance timelines now matter more than ever. For regulators, transparency and product tracking move to the forefront.

China’s CCC system is evolving — and companies must evolve with it.
