An Unusual Launch on a Rooftop
Faraday Future just pulled back the curtain on its newest vehicle—the Faraday X Super One—on the rooftop of a Los Angeles mall near Skid Row. It wasn’t your average car launch. The reveal included a mocktail bar, flashy lighting, and dozens of influencers. But the real head-turner was the Super One, a luxury minivan packed with screens, recliners, and bold claims about artificial intelligence.
What Is Faraday Future?
Founded by Chinese tech entrepreneur Jia Yueting, Faraday Future has made headlines for years—mostly for the wrong reasons. Its first model, the FF 91, was unveiled in 2017 with promises of 1,000 horsepower and Level 4 autonomy. However, as of today, only 16 FF 91s have actually been delivered. The company has also been accused of misleading investors and faced ongoing investigations from the SEC related to its 2021 SPAC merger. Despite the controversies, Faraday presses on, now promising a pivot into more affordable “AI EVs.”
Meet the Faraday X Super One
The Super One is a luxury van that blends lounge-like comfort with futuristic tech. The exterior features a digital screen grille, while the interior boasts massaging recliners, ambient lighting, and a full-length rear entertainment screen. Faraday claims it’s the world’s first “EAI MPV,” built to serve elite clients and celebrity fleets. It also introduces the “Super EAI F.A.C.E.” system, an onboard AI agent. But none of it works yet—Faraday says all features will “gradually roll out after mass production.”
Is It Even Real?
The Super One is reportedly based on the Wey Gaoshan, a van from China’s Great Wall Motors. Faraday hasn’t shared key specs like battery range or pricing—though they promise it’ll cost less than a Cadillac Escalade. The company says production will begin next year at its Hanford, CA plant. Given its record, skepticism is warranted.
Final Thoughts
Luxury vans are trending, especially in celebrity and executive transport. Faraday Future could capitalize on that. But after years of hype and missed targets, the Super One might be more vaporware than vehicle.
