Ford’s Electric Pickup Leads the Pack Again

Ford's Electric Pickup Leads the Pack Again

Ford’s Electric Truck Retakes the Lead

The F-150 Lightning is back on top. According to new registration data, Ford’s all-electric pickup was the best-selling electric truck in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2025.

In March alone, Ford logged 2,598 registrations of the Lightning. That pushed its total to 7,913 registrations in Q1, more than any other electric pickup currently on the market.

Competition Isn’t Sleeping

Ford may lead now, but rivals are catching up fast. General Motors is making a serious push with its new electric trucks. In Q1, GM sold 2,383 Chevy Silverado EVs and 1,249 GMC Sierra EVs. These models are quickly finding traction among traditional truck buyers.

Rivian also held its ground with 1,727 R1T pickups delivered in the same period.

Sales Up Top, But Slipping Elsewhere

While the Lightning took the crown in Q1, Ford’s numbers weren’t all positive. In April 2025, sales of the Lightning dropped 16%, falling to just 1,740 units for the month. So far this year, Ford has sold 8,927 units, a 9% decline from the same point last year.

Meanwhile, GM surged into second place in the broader EV market with nearly 8,500 total EV registrations—a staggering 274% increase year-over-year. Ford now holds third place with 7,361 registrations across all EV models.

Ram Stuck in Neutral

One major automaker still isn’t ready to join the race. Ram has delayed its first fully electric pickup—the 1500 REV—until mid-2027. Even its plug-in hybrid Ramcharger has been pushed back to early 2026.

Stellantis, Ram’s parent company, cites the need for extended testing and weak U.S. demand for electric trucks.

The Battle Is Just Getting Started

Ford has reclaimed the top spot—for now. But with legacy rivals rising and new models launching fast, the fight for EV truck dominance is far from settled.
