A major step forward for Pennsylvania’s electric vehicle infrastructure quietly arrived this week in Harrisburg. A new EV charging hub — now the largest in the region — has officially opened to the public, offering 12 charging ports, including fast chargers, 24/7 access, and partial solar power integration.
Located across from Harrisburg International Airport, the new station is positioned to serve both local commuters and long-distance travelers. According to Aero Corporation President Solomon Cramer, the site aims to improve public EV access and convenience in Central Pennsylvania.
“This hub was designed with both accessibility and reliability in mind,” Cramer said. “It’s part of the broader shift we’re seeing toward electrified transport, especially as adoption grows outside of major metro areas.”
Key Features Include Fast Charging and Solar Integration
The site features six chargers with a total of 12 ports. Half of the stations are covered by a solar canopy that not only provides shade but also contributes renewable power to the local grid. The system is tied into utility switchgear, enabling surplus energy to be credited back — a small but notable addition to regional clean energy capacity.
Construction took approximately two years from demolition to commissioning, with installation of infrastructure and equipment completed in just three months. The total investment came in just under $2 million.
Designed for Convenience and Daily Use
Public users can pay for charging using a credit or debit card without needing to download an app. The location — which includes access to a nearby Dunkin’ with restrooms and food — is open around the clock. For EV renters returning cars to the airport, it also offers a final charging stop just before drop-off.
Regional Impact
Compared to other charging options nearby, the Harrisburg hub is currently unmatched in size and convenience. The next closest site, roughly seven miles away, has fewer ports and limited availability. As EV adoption accelerates, regional hubs like this could play a vital role in reducing range anxiety and supporting the growing number of electric drivers across Pennsylvania.
