Hyundai is making EV ownership easier by expanding its free home charger program. Now, buyers and lessees of the 2024 and 2025 Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 can choose between a complimentary Level 2 home charger or $400 in public charging credits. With charging being one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption, this move could help more drivers make the switch.
Who Qualifies for the Free Charger?
Hyundai’s charging incentive applies to:
- 2024 and 2025 Ioniq 5
- 2025 Ioniq 5 N (gets an extra $50 in charging credits)
- 2024 and 2025 Ioniq 6
The offer is valid through 2025, but buyers must claim it within 60 days of purchasing or leasing their vehicle. They then have another 60 days to complete the charger installation.
How Does It Work?
Customers can choose between:
- A free ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 charger (installation not included)
- $400 in ChargePoint public charging credits (Ioniq 5 N buyers get $450)
While the charger itself is free, installation costs are not covered. Hyundai requires buyers to use an approved installer to hardwire the unit into their home electrical system.
Why This Matters
A recent study found that 71% of car buyers are more likely to go electric if the manufacturer helps with home charging. Since charging is one of the biggest concerns for new EV owners, this program could boost consumer confidence.
Other automakers, like Ford’s Power Promise, also offer free home chargers with installation, making EV adoption even smoother. As these incentives expand, buyers may feel more comfortable making the switch.
Can This Help Ioniq 6 Sales?
While the Ioniq 5 is thriving, the Ioniq 6 sedan struggles to gain traction in an SUV-dominated market. However, with its impressive efficiency and long range, Hyundai hopes this promotion will help it break out of the Ioniq 5’s shadow.
