A Premium Robotaxi Is Coming
Lucid, Nuro, and Uber have announced a high-tech, next-gen robotaxi program. It’s being developed exclusively for the Uber platform and is expected to launch in a major U.S. city by late next year.
This isn’t just another concept. The robotaxi blends Lucid’s advanced EV platform, Nuro’s Level 4 self-driving system, and Uber’s massive global ride-hailing network. Together, they aim to deliver a smooth, scalable, and safe autonomous ride experience.
20,000 Vehicles, One Big Vision
Uber plans to deploy at least 20,000 Lucid vehicles equipped with the Nuro Driver™ system over the next six years. These vehicles will be operated by Uber or its fleet partners and available only through the Uber app.
The first prototype is already running in autonomous mode at Nuro’s test site in Las Vegas.
To strengthen the collaboration, Uber will also make hundreds of millions in investment into both Lucid and Nuro.
Why It’s Built to Scale
The robotaxi is based on the Lucid Gravity—a luxury electric SUV with a long 450-mile range and software-defined architecture. This allows high asset use, fewer charging stops, and a more comfortable ride.
Nuro’s Level 4 autonomous system will be seamlessly integrated on Lucid’s production line. Later, the software will be activated once the vehicle enters Uber’s network.
Uber brings unmatched scale—over 70 countries and 34 million daily trips—making it the perfect launchpad for a real-world robotaxi rollout.
Safety Comes Standard
Nuro will lead the safety validation process. This includes AI simulations, closed-course testing, and supervised on-road trials.
The system is designed to quickly adapt to new environments, vehicles, and functions. That means faster rollouts and smarter responses.
