A Fresh Look for BMW’s Flagship EV
BMW has updated its flagship electric SUV, the 2026 iX, and this time, it’s not just a facelift—it’s a full upgrade. With new trims, longer range, and a lower starting price, the iX is finally positioned to compete in a crowded EV market.
After struggling to gain traction since its 2022 debut, the iX now looks sharper, drives smoother, and comes in a version you might actually afford.
More Range, More Power, Less Sticker Shock
BMW is introducing a new entry-level trim, the xDrive45, starting at $76,325. It delivers 402 horsepower and up to 312 miles of range, making it both practical and fun to drive.
Other trims have been renamed and upgraded:
- The xDrive50 becomes the xDrive60 with 364 miles of range and 536 hp
- The M60 is now the M70, boasting 650 hp and 303 miles of range
All models now feature a larger battery, improved suspension, and enhanced handling—especially in Sport mode, where the iX finally feels like a true BMW.
New Design, Same Big Grille Energy
BMW hasn’t toned down the iX’s controversial look. In fact, the grille is now illuminated, with horizontal slats to mimic a gas-powered vehicle. Love it or hate it, you’ll definitely notice it.
The headlights are sleeker, aligning with BMW’s future Neue Klasse EVs. Inside, the cabin keeps its curved display and premium feel, although the interface remains clunky enough that most drivers will rely on Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The Real Star? The Base Model
Surprisingly, the xDrive45 may be the iX’s breakout hit. It delivers strong range, comfort, and luxury at a reasonable price—without making you feel like you downgraded. This version might just be what finally pushes BMW’s EV sales past the tipping point.
