The Future of AMG: An All-Electric Sedan
Mercedes-AMG is about to unveil a game-changing vehicle. The upcoming AMG EV sedan will replace the four-door AMG GT. Teased ahead of its official reveal in June, this electric car promises powerful performance with a sleek, aerodynamic design.
Inspired by Vision AMG Concept
Mercedes first introduced this model as the Vision AMG concept in 2022, and now, it’s becoming reality. While some features, like the translucent side windows, will likely stay in the concept phase, key design elements will make it to production. The car will maintain the sloping roofline and rear hatchback that define the current AMG GT four-door, staying true to its fastback aesthetic.
Cutting-Edge Design and Features
From the shadowy teaser images, it’s clear that the AMG EV sedan will have a striking aerodynamic profile. The rear haunches sport a cut line, hinting at the four-door design. Expect the vehicle to feature three-piece taillights similar to the Vision AMG, which glowed like a jet fighter’s afterburners, making a bold statement for Mercedes’ future electric vehicles.
A New Platform and Powertrain
This electric sedan will be built on the AMG.EA platform, designed specifically for high-performance electric vehicles. It will feature axial-flux motors, developed by Yasa, a British company acquired by Mercedes in 2021. These motors are lightweight yet powerful, offering optimal power density. Additionally, the car will come with a high-voltage battery, promising fast charging times and impressive range.
Arrival and Future Plans
The AMG EV sedan is expected to launch in 2026. It will likely coexist with the gas-powered GT four-door for a while, especially as the hybrid version, the GT63 S E Performance, just became available in 2024. Following the sedan, Mercedes plans to introduce an electric AMG SUV based on the same platform.
Mercedes is clearly pushing the boundaries of electric performance, and this AMG EV sedan will be the next step in that electrifying journey. With sleek design and powerful technology, it’s set to compete with the best in the electric vehicle world.
