Mitsubishi’s EV Return Starts Now

After nearly a decade on the sidelines, Mitsubishi is back in the electric game. Its first all-new EV since the i-MiEV will arrive in summer 2025, and it’s coming with a familiar DNA. Built on the platform of the next-generation Nissan Leaf, this new crossover marks Mitsubishi’s re-entry into a rapidly growing U.S. EV market.

The automaker confirmed the model will be available in both the United States and Canada, and will join a lineup that includes the Outlander PHEV and Eclipse Cross. It’s all part of Mitsubishi’s long-term growth strategy.

Leaf Tech, Mitsubishi Style

While Mitsubishi hasn’t revealed the name or specs, clues point to a restyled version of the upcoming Leaf. Expect features like:

  • Tesla-designed NACS charging port
  • Full-width LED lighting
  • A sleek design with a 0.26 drag coefficient
  • Compact dimensions—about ¾ the size of a Tesla Model Y

This marks a shift in design strategy for Mitsubishi, following its success selling rebadged Renaults in Europe. For this North American model, it seems the Leaf will serve as the base, with Mitsubishi design cues layered on top.

Bigger Plans Underway

This EV isn’t a one-off. Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 plan aims to release a new or heavily revised model every year from 2026 to 2030. That includes more crossovers and possibly a production version of the D:X Concept minivan.

Also catching attention in Mitsubishi’s teaser lineup is a mystery EV, believed to be developed by Foxconn—the same company that builds iPhones. The tech giant just inked a deal with Mitsubishi for a new model starting next year.

The Takeaway

Mitsubishi’s EV comeback is more than a one-car revival. It’s the start of a multi-year push into electric mobility, powered by smart partnerships and a sharpened focus on North American drivers. Stay tuned—the road ahead looks electric.
