Nio Adds More Value to Its Smallest EV
Nio has updated the Firefly compact EV with more power, more features, and a few design tweaks. Most importantly, the company did it without increasing the price.
That move matters. In a crowded urban EV market, price jumps can quickly kill momentum. Instead, Nio is trying a different play. It is giving buyers more car for the same money while keeping the Firefly fresh as competition intensifies.
The refreshed model still starts at 119,800 yuan with the battery included. Buyers who choose battery-as-a-service can still enter at 79,800 yuan, plus the monthly battery rental fee. Higher trims also keep their existing prices.
More Power, Faster Sprint
The biggest mechanical change is under the skin. Nio raised the Firefly’s peak motor output from 105 kW to 120 kW.
That extra power cuts the car’s 0 to 100 km/h time to 7.9 seconds, giving the compact EV a stronger edge in city driving and highway merging. It is not a radical transformation, but it does make the Firefly feel more competitive in a segment where quick response matters.
Notably, Nio is also extending the performance gain to current owners through an over-the-air update. That means earlier buyers are not being left behind.
Small Design Tweaks, Bigger Feature Gains
On the outside, the updated Firefly gets a new Maillard paint option and a redesigned two-tone lower bumper. The styling changes are modest, yet they help distinguish the refreshed version.
Inside, Nio added several features buyers had been asking for. These include a tire pressure monitoring system and rearview mirrors with memory and automatic tilt-down functions.
The car also receives the Aster 1.4.0 software update, which adds more cabin personalization, new in-car interaction features, and even Nintendo Switch screen casting. That keeps the Firefly aligned with Nio’s tech-focused identity.
Nio’s Broader EV Push Is Speeding Up
The Firefly upgrade arrives during a busy stretch for Nio. The company delivered 35,486 vehicles in March, while Firefly passed 50,000 cumulative deliveries before its first full year on the market.
Nio has also been refreshing models like the ET5, ET5 Touring, ES6, and EC6 while continuing to expand its fifth-generation battery swap network.
Taken together, the message is clear. Nio is not waiting for a full redesign cycle. It is moving fast, updating often, and trying to keep every part of its lineup sharper without asking buyers to pay more.
