Pairing Your New Phone with Polestar: Quick Guide

Getting a new phone is exciting, but if you drive a Polestar, you’ll need to re-pair the Polestar app for features like Phone-as-a-Key (PAK) and remote control. Since pairing is unique to each phone, transferring data or restoring from an old phone’s backup won’t carry over the connection. Here’s a step-by-step guide on pairing your new phone and what to do if you no longer have your old device.

Before Wiping Your Old Phone: Unpair It First

To avoid any headaches, unpair your old phone before wiping or getting rid of it. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Polestar app on the phone you want to replace.
  2. Go to the User tab, tap Manage, then User Management.
  3. You’ll see a list of paired phones. Tap Disconnect next to your old phone.

If you have multiple users paired to the car, you can disconnect your old phone from any other user’s device.

Pairing Your New Phone

For Android Users
No special steps are required. Simply log in to the Polestar app on your new phone and follow the pairing instructions.

For iPhone Users
If you restored your new iPhone from a backup, you’ll need to clear any backed-up app data before pairing:

  1. Open the Polestar app on the new phone and log out if needed.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Reinstall the app from the App Store and log in.
  4. Proceed with pairing your phone to the car.

Lost Access to Your Old Phone? Here’s a Workaround

If you no longer have your old phone, use this workaround:

  1. In the car, go to the Phone app and delete the entry for your old phone.
  2. On your new phone, uninstall and reinstall the Polestar app, then sign back in.
  3. Create a new blank profile in the car and set it as an Admin profile.
  4. Use another phone or tablet to pair with the car’s new profile (it could even be an iPad). Skip the digital key setup for now.
  5. Go to the User tab on this temporary device, tap Manage, and disconnect the old phone from the car.
  6. Switch back to your main profile in the car.
  7. On your new phone, open the Polestar app and pair it with the car. Be sure to allow location access and Bluetooth permissions.
  8. Set up the digital key.

Final Thoughts

While Polestar is continuously improving the pairing process with updates, switching devices can still be tricky. Following these tips will help you avoid frustration. Stay tuned for future updates that might make this process simpler!
