Range Rover Electric: From Arctic Frost to Desert Heat

Range Rover Electric: From Arctic Frost to Desert Heat

The electric Range Rover is gearing up for its much-anticipated launch, undergoing rigorous testing to ensure it delivers the same world-class performance and off-road capability as its combustion-powered predecessors. Land Rover is leaving no stone unturned to validate its latest innovation, the Range Rover Electric, under the harshest conditions imaginable.

Reservations Open, Deliveries Looming

Reservations for the all-electric luxury SUV opened in late 2023, with deliveries set to begin in 2025. For the U.S. market, the Range Rover Electric is expected to be a 2026 model, marking a new era for the brand. As excitement builds, Land Rover is ensuring that the EV version upholds the storied legacy of its internal-combustion counterparts.

Tested in the Heat of Dubai

The Range Rover Electric recently endured hot-weather trials in temperatures soaring as high as 122°F and humidity levels approaching 90%. Prototypes were also pushed to their limits on the towering sand dunes of Dubai, conquering a grueling 300-foot dune five times consecutively without any performance degradation. Land Rover’s engineers have made it clear that this level of resilience is non-negotiable for every Range Rover model, regardless of its powertrain.

Surviving Arctic Extremes

Earlier in the year, the vehicle was tested under the polar extremes of the Arctic Circle. Temperatures plummeted to a bone-chilling -40°F as the prototypes faced icy, low-traction surfaces. These trials not only tested durability but also allowed engineers to fine-tune the electric Range Rover’s systems. Notably, the traction control system leverages the EV’s electric motors rather than brakes, offering precise control and improved handling in slippery conditions.

Built for the Future

The Range Rover Electric is based on a modified version of the MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform used in the current gasoline and plug-in hybrid Range Rover models. This platform supports the EV’s cutting-edge capabilities while maintaining the luxury and versatility expected from the brand. Production will take place at the iconic Solihull factory in the U.K., continuing Land Rover’s legacy of meticulous craftsmanship.

A Glimpse at What’s Next

The electric Range Rover is just the beginning. Land Rover plans to follow up with an electric Range Rover Sport and a successor to the Range Rover Velar, alongside three electric models from its sister brand Jaguar. With these ambitious plans, Land Rover is firmly positioned to lead the charge into the electric future, ensuring its vehicles remain synonymous with luxury and rugged capability.

Land Rover’s commitment to excellence ensures the Range Rover Electric is more than an SUV—it’s a statement of innovation and resilience in any environment.
