Rivian is preparing for the arrival of its highly anticipated R2. With production set to begin soon, the company is strengthening its service network across the United States. The goal is simple: support growing demand and deliver a seamless ownership experience from day one.
As R2 moves closer to launch, Rivian is scaling quickly and strategically.
50+ New Service Centers on the Way
Rivian plans to open more than 50 new service centers by the end of 2027. This expansion will bring its total network to over 150 locations nationwide.
Importantly, Rivian is focusing on high-density regions where many owners live. Larger, higher-capacity facilities will help streamline scheduling and reduce wait times. Over the past year alone, Rivian added more than 1,000 service specialists. Now, it continues hiring and training additional technicians to meet future demand.
More Mobile Service, More Convenience
Beyond physical locations, Rivian is expanding its mobile service fleet. The company will increase its service vans by 50% by the end of 2026.
These vans already handle many repairs directly at customers’ homes or workplaces. As a result, owners avoid unnecessary trips to service centers. In addition, Rivian continues to enhance remote diagnostics. Technicians can identify issues early and, in some cases, resolve them through over-the-air software updates.
This digital-first approach improves efficiency and reduces downtime.
R2 Designed for Simpler Service
Rivian applied lessons from the R1T and R1S to engineer the R2 with greater simplicity. The new model features reduced mechanical complexity and a more software-defined architecture. Consequently, technicians can diagnose and address issues more efficiently.
Early detection tools also allow service teams to prepare parts before appointments. That proactive strategy keeps visits smooth and predictable.
Preparing for Volume Growth
Rivian will begin R2 production in the second quarter, with first deliveries expected shortly after. The Normal, Illinois plant targets up to 25,000 R2 units in its first year.
Overall, Rivian forecasts up to 67,000 total vehicle deliveries in 2026, representing significant growth. The R2, starting at around $45,000, marks Rivian’s move into the mass market.
With expanded infrastructure, advanced diagnostics, and growing capacity, Rivian is positioning its service network to match its next chapter of growth.
