Taycan vs. Gravity: Speed or Range?

Taycan vs. Gravity: Speed or Range?

The Battle for America’s Fastest Charging EV

Fast charging is a hot race, and two contenders are leading the U.S. pack: the 2025 Porsche Taycan and the 2026 Lucid Gravity. Both bring ultra-fast charging capabilities, sleek engineering, and serious power to the table. But which one truly gets you back on the road faster?

Specs on Paper

The Lucid Gravity boasts a potential 400 kW peak charging speed. Porsche’s Taycan isn’t far behind at 320 kW. While the Gravity can take in more power, the Taycan has a smaller battery—meaning it should charge faster to the same percentage.

The Real-World Test

EV expert Tom Moloughney put both vehicles to the test on the same 350 kW charger. Starting from 0%, the Gravity instantly pulled high speeds. The Taycan, though slower to ramp up, reached 48% in 10 minutes—beating the Gravity’s 42%. But that’s not the whole story.

By 15 minutes, the Taycan hit 70% while the Gravity was still at 55%. Yet, the Lucid received more total energy—thanks to its larger battery and higher power draw. At the 80% mark, the Taycan got there in 19 minutes. The Gravity followed in 27.

Range vs. Percentage

Here’s the twist: 80% in a Taycan means fewer miles than 80% in a Gravity. Lucid delivers more usable range per charge, making it the more efficient road-trip option, even if it charges slightly slower in a head-to-head.

And the Winner Is…

Both EVs are impressive. They crushed the U.S. average DC fast-charge session time of 42 minutes. But when it comes to actual range added, Lucid’s Gravity edges ahead. And this test was on a 350 kW charger—Lucid can go even faster with a 400 kW unit.

In the world of ultra-fast charging, Porsche takes the early lead—but Lucid wins the long game. The race to five-minute charging? It’s just getting started.
