The LEAF Is Back—And It’s Better Than Ever

Nissan LEAF Gets a Major Makeover

The Nissan LEAF helped kick off the modern electric vehicle movement back in 2010. It was one of the first mass-market EVs, and for years, it led the way in affordability and early adoption. Now, it’s back—bolder, smarter, and aiming even higher.

The 2026 Nissan LEAF brings a complete redesign and a tech-forward update. With nearly 700,000 units sold globally, Nissan hopes this next-gen version will help the model finally reach one million cumulative sales—a milestone that few EVs can claim.

Sleek Design, Better Shape

Let’s start with what everyone sees first: the design. The new LEAF swaps out its familiar hatchback look for a more modern, crossover-inspired profile. This isn’t just about style. With a new drag coefficient of 0.26—down from 0.29—the design actually helps improve range and aerodynamics.

You’ll also notice clean flush door handles, futuristic 3D tail lamps, and a more aggressive stance. It’s built to appeal to today’s EV buyers, and it finally looks the part.

Bigger Battery, Longer Range

Under the skin, the upgrades continue. The LEAF now features a 75-kWh liquid-cooled battery that delivers an estimated 303 miles of range. That’s a massive leap forward from older models.

Thanks to a new 3-in-1 electric powertrain, the vehicle is also more efficient and compact under the hood, freeing up space and weight.

Loaded With Smart Features

Inside, the 2026 LEAF comes fully loaded. It offers dual 14.3-inch displays, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, built-in Google Maps, and even a panoramic sunroof. Add in 64-color ambient lighting and an optional Bose premium sound system, and you’ve got a tech-lovers dream cabin.

Even better, Nissan has added NACS (Tesla plug) support and Plug & Charge functionality, giving LEAF drivers access to Tesla’s Supercharger network—a major leap in charging convenience.

Ready to Compete Again

While other early EVs faded out, the LEAF is staging a comeback. With fresh looks, meaningful range, and expanded charging access, the 2026 LEAF is ready to reclaim its place in the EV spotlight. One million sales? It finally feels within reach.
