Kia is preparing to bring a new kind of electric performance car to America. The upcoming Kia EV3 GT blends compact size with serious power, creating something that feels much closer to a modern electric hot hatch than a traditional SUV.
The performance-focused EV is expected to arrive in the U.S. market in late 2026, expanding Kia’s growing lineup of sporty electric vehicles.
Big Power in a Compact Electric Package
The EV3 GT may be small, but it delivers impressive performance.
Kia equips the model with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing about 288 horsepower. That level of power should give the compact EV strong acceleration and quick response.
While official U.S. performance figures are still pending, the power output suggests a 0–60 mph time comfortably under six seconds.
The vehicle also carries an 81.4 kWh battery pack, which provides a balance between range and performance.
More Hatchback Spirit Than SUV
Kia classifies the EV3 as a compact SUV. However, its size and proportions tell a different story.
The vehicle sits slightly higher than a traditional hatchback, yet it remains compact and wide with a sporty stance. Because of that, the EV3 GT feels closer to a performance hatchback with extra ride height rather than a conventional crossover.
That layout could make it appealing for drivers who want both practicality and driving fun.
Performance Hardware Designed for Real Driving
Kia didn’t focus solely on straight-line speed. The EV3 GT also receives several mechanical upgrades designed to improve handling.
The performance model features:
- Sport-tuned suspension
- MacPherson strut front suspension
- Multi-link rear suspension
- Enhanced steering calibration
- Larger brake components
- Sport seats with added support
Together, these changes aim to give the EV3 GT sharper cornering and a more engaging driving feel.
Kia also introduces a simulated gear-shift driving mode, similar to the technology used in the EV6 GT and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. The system mimics gear changes to add a sense of involvement behind the wheel.
Subtle Styling With Performance Touches
The EV3 GT keeps its sporty upgrades relatively understated.
Small visual cues differentiate it from the standard EV3, including distinct wheels, GT badging, and bright green brake calipers.
Inside, the cabin focuses on usability. The dashboard features separate screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment, along with physical controls for frequently used functions.
A Bold Experiment for the U.S. EV Market
Compact EVs remain rare in the United States, and performance versions are even rarer.
That makes the EV3 GT a notable move from Kia. Instead of focusing only on large crossovers, the brand is exploring a smaller electric car designed to deliver both practicality and excitement.
More details, including pricing and final specifications, are expected closer to the EV3 GT’s U.S. launch in 2026.
