A More Affordable EX30 Hits U.S. Shores
Good news for EV shoppers: Volvo has just dropped a more affordable version of its EX30 electric crossover in the U.S. The new Single Motor Extended Range model starts at $40,245 (including destination) — that’s $6,000 less than the previously available Twin Motor Performance version.
But it’s not just cheaper — it also goes farther on a charge.
Same Battery, More Range
This new EX30 variant still uses the 69-kWh battery pack, just like the dual-motor model. However, with only one motor powering the rear wheels, it weighs less — 3,913 pounds vs. 4,151 pounds. That lighter frame helps push the estimated range to 261 miles, 8 miles more than the twin-motor version.
Performance does take a slight hit. You’ll get 268 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque, down from the dual-motor’s 422 hp. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph takes 5.1 seconds, compared to 3.4 seconds for the performance trim. Still, that’s plenty quick for most drivers.
Charging, Towing, and Tech
Charging remains solid: expect a 10% to 80% boost in 28 minutes using a 175 kW DC fast charger. Towing capacity stays the same at 2,000 pounds, but you’ll need to pay $1,830 extra for the optional retractable trailer hitch.
The Single Motor EX30 is only available in the Plus trim, which includes:

- Dual-zone climate control
- Heat pump
- Adaptive cruise control
- 19″ alloy wheels
- 12.3″ touchscreen with Android Automotive OS
Still Not the $35K EV We Were Promised
When Volvo first teased the EX30 in 2023, the goal was a starting price near $35,000. Software delays and global tariffs pushed that dream aside — at least for now.
In Europe, there’s a cheaper EX30 with a 51-kWh battery and 209-mile range. If that version comes stateside, the EX30 could finally hit its original price target.
For now, the Single Motor Extended Range is the most affordable EX30 you can buy in the U.S.
