Your Polestar 3 Can Now Power Your House

Your Polestar 3 Can Now Power Your House

Polestar Launches Bi-Directional Charging for the Polestar 3

Polestar just flipped the switch on a major energy breakthrough. Starting in California, Polestar 3 owners can now power their homes using their car. This marks the brand’s first official step into bi-directional charging, turning your EV into a backup generator—and a cost-saving energy partner.

From Charging to Discharging: The Power Flows Both Ways

Bi-directional charging allows electric vehicles to both receive and send energy. Through a new partnership with energy tech company dcbel, Polestar is rolling out a vehicle-to-home (V2H) solution.

This tech lets drivers:

  • Cut energy bills by up to $1,300 per year
  • Use their car as a backup power source during blackouts (up to 10 days)
  • Tap into renewable energy more efficiently
  • Support the local grid during peak demand
  • Powered by dcbel, Backed by State Incentives

The V2H package includes the dcbel Ara home energy system, tailored for Polestar 3’s 400V architecture. California residents can benefit from state rebates, dramatically lowering setup costs.

This smart charging system can optimize when you charge—drawing power when it’s cheapest or cleanest—and then reverse it to power your home when needed. It’s energy independence, on four wheels.

More Markets Coming Soon

For now, this tech is exclusive to Polestar 3 customers in California, but it’s just the beginning. Polestar plans to expand the offering globally. In Europe, they’ve already launched a bi-directional-ready AC charger—the Zaptec Go2—in Germany, with other countries in the pipeline.

The Car That Works While Parked

This rollout signals more than just a new feature. It’s a shift in how we use vehicles—not just to move, but to power our lives. As CEO Michael Lohscheller puts it: “Your car can now work for you even when it’s parked.”

Polestar is not just building EVs anymore. It’s building energy systems on wheels.
