Kia has issued a recall for 1,385 units of its 2025 Sorento Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) due to a possible fuel leak that could lead to a fire risk. This recall stems from concerns identified during crash testing and highlights a safety issue with the vehicle’s front subframe design.
The Problem: Fuel Line Damage in Collisions
The issue occurs when the front subframe shifts rearward during certain frontal collisions. This displacement can push the steering column into the fuel line, causing it to rupture. If fuel leaks and meets an ignition source, it could result in a fire.
The defect was discovered during crash tests of the upcoming 2026 Sorento PHEV, which shares the same front subframe design as the 2025 model. Kia has reported no incidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue.
The Fix: Free Repairs for Affected Vehicles
To address the problem, Kia will install a protective cover around the fuel line to prevent damage in the event of a collision. Dealers have already begun adding this cover to vehicles outside the recall group, and affected owners can schedule the repair free of charge.
