Australia Post Expands Electric Delivery Fleet with UBCO

Australia Post is taking a significant step towards sustainability by adding 175 UBCO Duty electric motorcycles to its delivery fleet. The latter includes over 5,000 electric vehicles. These new motorcycles will be deployed across all states and territories in Australia to enhance the postal service’s ability to handle routes.

Advancing Sustainability Goals

The introduction of these UBCO Duty e-motorcycles is part of Australia Post’s broader strategy to reduce its carbon footprint. The motorcycles are expected to contribute significantly to this goal. As planned, they’ll offer several key benefits:

  • Zero Tailpipe Emissions: These electric motorcycles produce no emissions, helping to reduce air pollution.
  • Lower Operating Costs: The higher energy efficiency and reduced maintenance needs make them more cost-effective than traditional vehicles.
  • Reduced Noise Pollution: The quieter operation of EVs will decrease noise levels in residential and urban areas, improving overall community well-being.

Paul Graham, Australia Post’s CEO and Managing Director, emphasized the initiative’s importance by stating that the new fleet would enable the organization to electrify more routes, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and further progress towards sustainability goals.

Collaboration with UBCO

Australia Post’s partnership with UBCO, which began in 2022, has been instrumental in developing these new delivery vehicles. Starting with UBCO’s 2X2 platform, the collaboration aimed to create a motorcycle that could replace the existing fleet of 5,000 Honda CT110 motorbikes. The result is the UBCO Duty model. It will have a rear-wheel-drive motorcycle with a top speed of 85 km/h and a range of about 100 kilometers. So, it’ll be suitable for both rural and urban deliveries.

UBCO’s Chief Executive, Oliver Hutaff, highlighted the vehicle’s design. He notes that the UBCO Duty is for companies seeking efficient, low-emission delivery options.

Australia Post has committed to an initial order of 175 Duty motorcycles, with plans to have them operational across Australia within the next month. This move will set a new standard for sustainable delivery practices in the country. They claim it’ll further cement Australia Post’s role as a leader in environmentally responsible logistics.
