Lucid Air Pure RWD Recall Due to Short Wiring Harness

Lucid Air Pure RWD Recall Due to Short Wiring Harness

Lucid Motors has issued a recall for approximately 1,539 Lucid Air Pure rear-wheel drive (RWD) vehicles. The company mentions the recall is due to a wiring harness that is too short. This issue, affecting 2024 and 2025 models, could potentially lead to power loss or reduced power in the vehicle’s single drive unit, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall affects only the Lucid Air Pure RWD models, produced between November 2023 and October 2024. The issue lies in the rear subframe wiring harness, which may not be long enough. Thus, it places excess strain on the electrical connection. This could result in the loss of power from the drive unit, which, in the case of the Air Pure RWD, could lead to a complete power failure due to its single-motor configuration.

Lucid Motors became aware of the issue after receiving multiple reports of reduced power and total power loss starting in June 2024. Upon investigation, the company found 37 instances linked to the wiring harness length. Of these, seven involved complete loss of power without any prior warning, prompting the company to issue the recall.

The Solution

Lucid Motors has already started using a longer wiring harness in production from October 17, 2024. Affected owners will receive replacement harnesses at no charge, and Lucid service centers will handle the recall. Starting December 20, 2024, owners will start to get notification letters.

Affected Vehicles in RWD Recall

The recall affects the Lucid Air Pure RWD vehicles produced at the Casa Grande assembly plant in Arizona between November 29, 2023, and October 17, 2024. Owners of these vehicles are to schedule a service appointment to have the wiring harness replaced.

Despite the recall, the Lucid Air Pure remains a strong contender in the luxury electric vehicle market. It offers a 430-horsepower motor, an 84 kWh battery, and a range of 420 miles on a full charge (slightly more than the earlier 419 miles with the original 88 kWh battery). The car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, with a starting price of $69,900.

The company handles the recall swiftly and commits to ensure that these vehicles meet safety standards. Customers affected by the recall can expect prompt service to resolve the wiring issue and ensure their vehicles operate safely.
