Hands-Free Driving Comes to Lucid
Lucid Motors is stepping up its game in the advanced driver assistance space. The California-based luxury EV maker has announced that hands-free driving and automated lane changes are coming to its two headline models: the Lucid Air sedan and the upcoming Gravity SUV.
These features will arrive via a free over-the-air (OTA) software update, but only for vehicles equipped with the optional DreamDrive Pro package.
What Features Are Being Added?
The update includes two headline capabilities:
- Hands-free highway driving on select divided roads
- Automatic lane changes, triggered when the driver activates the turn signal
Lucid Air drivers will receive the update starting July 30, while Gravity owners will gain access later this year. However, the new functionality will only work on compatible highways and only in cars with DreamDrive Pro — not the standard DreamDrive system.
What Is DreamDrive Pro and What’s Included?
DreamDrive Pro is Lucid’s top-tier Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), available as a paid upgrade:
$2,500 on most Lucid Air trims
$6,750 on the Gravity SUV
The system includes an impressive 32-sensor suite, including lidar, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and multiple visible-light and surround-view cameras. Combined with Lucid’s proprietary software stack, the hardware enables real-time driving intelligence.
According to Kai Stepper, Lucid’s VP of ADAS, the system is designed for growth: “These features are just the beginning. We’re building toward a smarter, more intuitive driving future.”
Lucid’s Sales Are Also Gaining Speed
The tech rollout comes during a surge in production.
In Q2 2025, Lucid built 3,863 vehicles — an 83% year-over-year increase — and delivered 3,309 units. Overall, the company has delivered 6,418 EVs in the first half of the year, reflecting growing market traction.
Final Thought
Lucid’s new hands-free features highlight a shift in the luxury EV space. It’s no longer just about range or speed — it’s about smart, seamless automation that elevates every mile.
