Mini is taking its electric vehicle lineup to the next level by introducing John Cooper Works (JCW) performance variants for the first time. These souped-up versions of the electric Mini Cooper hatchback and Aceman subcompact crossover made their debut at the 2024 Paris Auto Show, showcasing a blend of electrification and sporty thrills.
JCW Electrifies the Mini Cooper and Aceman
The new JCW electric Mini Cooper hatchback and Aceman crossover have a 255-horsepower electric motor, delivering impressive performance. The JCW Cooper EV sprints from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.9 seconds, while the JCW Aceman manages the same in 6.4 seconds. Both models are electronically limited to a top speed of 124 mph. To enhance the driving experience, Mini has equipped them with a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, and a unique “go-kart mode” that offers a temporary power boost.
The JCW badge isn’t just about performance—it’s also about distinctive style. Both models feature sportier body kits and exclusive wheels, with the JCW Cooper EV sporting 18-inch wheels and the JCW Aceman riding on 19-inch ones. Inside, the black-and-red-themed interiors come with JCW-specific details, including red accent stitching, ambient roof lighting, and upgraded infotainment system graphics.
Range and Production Plans
Powered by a 54.2-kWh battery pack, the JCW Cooper EV will offer a 230-mile range on the WLTP cycle, while the JCW Aceman delivers about 220 miles. While U.S. range estimates may be slightly lower, the performance remains a key selling point. Initially manufactured in China, these models will face import tariffs in the U.S., but Mini plans to add U.K. production in 2026, making the electric Cooper more accessible in the American market. Mini will also transition fully to electric vehicles by the early 2030s, making this a glimpse into the brand’s electric future.
