Mercedes-Benz is about to introduce something exciting: the new entry-level CLA EV! They’ve shared some sneak peeks of the design, and it’s looking sleek and modern.
CLA EV and Efficiency
Last year, they revealed the electric CLA concept and called it their “one-liter car” because it’s super efficient. This new model will have the latest MMA platform and an energy consumption of around 5.2 miles per kWh. It’s also equipped with a brand-new drivetrain inspired by the ultra-efficient Vision EQXX, so you know it’s going to be impressive.
One of the coolest things about this CLA EV is its range. Mercedes says you can expect over 466 miles (about 750 kilometers) on a single charge! And if you’re in a hurry, you can get up to 248 miles of range in just 15 minutes with its fast-charging capability. That’s perfect for those long drives!
CLA’s Stylish Design Revealed
Leading up to the launch, we’ve seen the CLA EV out and about, including some winter testing in the Arctic Circle. The production model was just showcased at an event in France, giving us an even closer look at this beauty. The design features a streamlined silhouette, a shark-nose front, and some eye-catching headlights.
While this new platform can support different types of vehicles, the closed front grille tells us that this is definitely the all-electric version. There’s also talk about a high-performance AMG version that was spotted racing at the Nurburgring last month!
Inside, the CLA EV will come with Mercedes’ new OS (MB.OS), which they call the “brain” of their next-gen vehicles. It’s packed with tech that should make driving more enjoyable and connected.
What’s Next?
Mercedes plans to officially unveil the CLA EV later this year, aiming for it to be a 2026 model. It will be available worldwide, including in the US and Europe. While we don’t have exact pricing yet, early estimates suggest it might start around $50,000. That would put it in direct competition with the Tesla Model 3. The latter starts at $42,490, and the BMW i4, starting at $53,975.
This launch comes at an important time for Mercedes, as they’re looking to increase their presence in the EV market. So far this year, global EV sales have dropped by 22%. Yet, Mercedes managed to sell 148,500 EVs in the first nine months. Meanwhile, their rival BMW saw a 20% increase, selling over 294,000 EVs!
