Ram Pulls the Plug on Full-Size EV Pickup

Ram Pulls the Plug on Full-Size EV Pickup

Ram is rethinking its approach to electrification. As demand for full-size battery-electric trucks slows across North America, Stellantis has announced it will discontinue development of a fully electric Ram 1500. Instead, the brand is focusing on a more versatile solution: the range-extended Ram 1500 REV.

No Full BEV, but Ram Isn’t Slowing Down

On September 12, Stellantis officially confirmed a pivot in its product strategy. The decision to halt the development of a full-size BEV pickup comes as the market signals a more cautious adoption curve for all-electric trucks.

In response, Ram is updating its electrification roadmap. The Ram 1500 REV, previously branded as the Ramcharger, will now carry the torch. This range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) combines a battery-electric drivetrain with a gasoline-powered generator to deliver long-range capability without sacrificing power or performance.

Ram says the 1500 REV will set a new benchmark in the half-ton segment—delivering class-leading range, towing capacity, and payload.

A Lineup Built to Perform

While full BEVs take a backseat, Ram continues to dominate in high-performance and commercial spaces. Key products in the lineup include:

  • Ram 1500 Tungsten: Segment-leading luxury with 540 hp, air suspension, and massage seats
  • Ram 1500 RHO: More horsepower per dollar than any other off-road truck
  • Ram Power Wagon: The most off-road capable full-size pickup on the market
  • Ram ProMaster: Offers the largest cargo space in its segment

In commercial and fleet segments, Ram is leaning into its Chassis Cab and ProMaster platforms, offering features tailored for upfitters and business buyers.

Electrification, Reimagined

Ram isn’t abandoning electric innovation—it’s just adapting it. By investing in REEV technology, the brand addresses the limitations of full BEVs, while still delivering the power, utility, and flexibility truck buyers expect.

This strategic shift positions Ram to remain competitive, responsive, and ready for the evolving needs of real-world truck owners.
