Subaru has significantly reduced prices for its 2025 Solterra EV lineup, making the electric crossover more competitive. With cuts of up to $7,000 and the addition of a new Onyx Edition, the Solterra now offers better value without compromising its Subaru identity.
Price Drops Across the Lineup
Subaru’s 2025 Solterra Premium, the base model, now starts at $39,915, including destination fees. This reflects a $6,500 price reduction compared to the 2024 model, despite a slight increase in the destination charge from $1,345 to $1,420.
The Solterra Limited sees a similar $6,500 drop, priced at $43,415. This mid-tier model comes equipped with luxury features like 20-inch wheels, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen.
At the top of the lineup, the Touring model receives the biggest price cut, now starting at $46,415—$7,000 less than the previous year. Touring trims include extras like a moonroof, a digital rearview mirror, and ventilated front seats.
Introducing the Onyx Edition
New for 2025, the Onyx Edition is a $500 upgrade to the Touring model. It adds black wheels, dark exterior trim, and two-tone paint options, offering a sleek, modern aesthetic. This mirrors Toyota’s Nightshade Edition for the bZ4X, Solterra’s sibling model.
Leveraging Tax Credits Through Leasing
While the Solterra isn’t eligible for federal purchase tax credits due to its non-U.S. assembly, Subaru takes advantage of a leasing loophole. This allows leasing companies to claim the $7,500 commercial vehicle credit and pass the savings to consumers. However, this depends on individual agreements, as automakers are not obligated to provide the full benefit.
Specs and Performance
The Solterra maintains its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering 215 horsepower and 249 lb-ft of torque. It uses a 72.8-kWh battery pack, offering an EPA-estimated range of 227 miles for Premium models and 222 miles for trims with larger 20-inch wheels.
Charging remains a weak spot, as fast charging from 10% to 80% takes about 35 minutes. However, the improved battery conditioning system introduced in 2024 has brought efficiency on par with rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volkswagen ID.4.
The 2025 Subaru Solterra combines aggressive pricing with thoughtful upgrades, making it an appealing option in the growing EV crossover market. These changes might just give it the edge it needs to stand out in a competitive segment.
