Tesla’s New “MultiPass” Makes Charging Everywhere Way Easier

One App. Any Charger.

Tesla just rolled out a new feature called MultiPass, and it’s about to make EV charging far less frustrating. Think of it as a universal pass that lets drivers use a single app or card to power up at multiple fast-charging networks — not just Tesla Superchargers.

Instead of juggling half a dozen accounts and plastic cards, you can simply pull out your Tesla smartphone app or vehicle key card. Tap, charge, and go.

A Sci-Fi Name, A Real-World Fix

The name is a nod to the futuristic IDs in The Fifth Element, and it couldn’t be more fitting. MultiPass went live this week in the Netherlands, with more European countries expected soon.

To start charging, Tesla owners can either use their car’s key card or the app. The service instantly authenticates the session at non-Tesla DC fast chargers — no logins, no third-party apps.

The Price Question

There is one unknown: pricing. Other roaming services often charge a premium for the convenience. Tesla hasn’t yet revealed if MultiPass will keep costs in line with standard rates or add a fee. Still, the streamlined experience could be worth it, especially on road trips where time matters most.

Europe First, But U.S. Next?

In Europe, most Superchargers are already open to non-Tesla EVs, so MultiPass feels like a natural upgrade. But the real game-changer could be in North America, where Tesla has already opened 23,500 Superchargers to non-Tesla drivers.

Many EV owners already use the Tesla app to access these chargers, particularly brands like Porsche and Audi that haven’t integrated Supercharger access into their own apps. MultiPass could simplify that even further.

Why This Matters

Charging is still one of the biggest pain points for EV adoption. By cutting through the clutter of multiple apps and cards, Tesla’s MultiPass might finally deliver the seamless charging experience drivers have been waiting for.

And best of all — it’s only just getting started.
