Xiaomi is no longer sticking to pure electric cars.
The Chinese tech giant has confirmed Sky Nomad, its new extended-range EV push, after months of rumors. The move puts Xiaomi against Li Auto and Huawei-backed Aito, two brands that dominate China’s family-focused EREV SUV market.
The first model could arrive in the second half of 2026. If details hold, Xiaomi is preparing one of its boldest vehicles yet.
A New Name With Big Ambitions
Xiaomi EV revealed the Sky Nomad name on Weibo with a teaser poster. CEO Lei Jun shared the image and told followers the project is “coming soon.”
In China, reports suggest the lineup may use the Xiaomi Pengcheng name. Xiaomi has registered related accounts on Chinese platforms and filed Sky Nomad trademarks since 2025.
However, one question remains open. Xiaomi has not confirmed whether Sky Nomad will become a separate sub-brand or a product series alongside the SU7 and YU7.
The First SUV Looks Huge
The first Sky Nomad model, reportedly codenamed Kunlun N3, may launch as the N90. It may measure more than 5.3 meters long, with a 3.1-meter wheelbase.
That makes it a full-size SUV. It marks a major shift for Xiaomi because the N90 will not be a battery-only EV.
Instead, reports say it will use a 1.5-liter turbo engine as a generator. The engine will not drive the wheels. A battery pack above 70 kWh should deliver 400 to 500 km of electric-only range. Combined range could exceed 1,500 km.
Built for China’s Outdoor Boom
Spy shots point to a rugged, boxy design with roof-mounted LiDAR, powered side steps, and five- or seven-seat layouts. The seven-seat version may offer a built-in rooftop tent.
That matters. China’s camping and outdoor travel trend has become a serious selling point.
Pricing could start near 200,000 yuan, or about $29,400. That would undercut the Li Auto L9 and Aito M9.
Why It Matters
Xiaomi wants 550,000 vehicle deliveries in 2026. Sky Nomad could help it reach that goal while opening a new front in China’s hottest SUV segment.
