Porsche 718 Cayman EV Breaks Cover—First Look!

Porsche 718 Cayman EV Breaks Cover—First Look!

Porsche’s first all-electric Cayman has finally been spotted in testing, giving us a sneak peek at what could be the brand’s most exciting EV yet. While Porsche has been testing the electric Boxster for years, this is our first look at the coupe version of the 718 EV family.

A Familiar Shape with EV Tweaks

At first glance, the 718 Cayman EV keeps its signature silhouette, closely resembling the current gas-powered 982 Cayman. But there are key differences: a liftback-style rear hatch, an active rear spoiler, and a vertical third brake light, inspired by the 911.

Spy shots also suggest the rear panel could be all glass, with smoked upper and lower sections. The rear LED light bar appears to wrap around the car, possibly hiding an illuminated Porsche logo under the camouflage.

Aerodynamic and Performance Enhancements

The front end borrows design cues from the new 911 GTS Hybrid, featuring vertical air slats instead of the usual horizontal ones. While EVs don’t typically need large cooling vents, these slats may serve as active aero components, similar to the Mission R concept’s drag reduction system (DRS).

At the rear, hidden aerodynamic elements may help with track performance, echoing Porsche’s motorsport-inspired approach to EV development.

Single and Dual-Motor Options Expected

Porsche plans to offer the 718 EV lineup with both single-motor (RWD) and dual-motor (AWD) configurations. However, reports suggest the company is struggling to match the driving dynamics of its gas-powered models, which could push the release beyond its original 2025 debut.

When Will the 718 Cayman EV Arrive?

Initially set for a 2025 reveal and 2026 launch, delays could push the Cayman EV further down the timeline. Porsche is determined to perfect its electric driving experience, ensuring the 718 EV lives up to its legendary predecessors.
